Team: Directed by Magda Ochoa and features a cast of Ivette Novales-Gómez, Alberto Castellanos, Mónica Perea, Fernando Borderas, Mariana G. Hernández, Luis Pont, Morgana, Marcel Zadé, Karen B. Páramo, and Tahar Chaffai. The production is presented by Farandula Theatre, with surtitles by Joaquín Borderas-Ochoa.

Please note: This performance is in Spanish with English surtitles and contains themes of labour exploitation, abuse of power and authority, anti-immigration policies and bureaucracy, and pregnancy under precarious conditions.

Description

The story follows María and José, two young undocumented immigrants facing precarious work conditions and an unexpected pregnancy. Their journey becomes a symbol of dignity, hope, and the search for a better life. As their coworkers, representing shepherds, celebrate the coming child, they are obstructed by figures embodying legal and economic barriers. With the help of Gabriel and Archangel Michael, the obstacles are overcome, leading to a communal celebration of hope, solidarity, and tradition.

In the spirit of storytelling, we pause to honour this land's ancient and contemporary narratives. We stand upon the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Just as we celebrate the diverse voices of immigrant and refugee artists, we recognize the First Peoples who have woven this place's first and enduring tales. Their stories are a testament to resilience, creativity, and the power of community. As we come together from many corners of the world, may we always remember, respect, and learn from this land's stories.
