November 6, 2025 - 7:30 pm

Scotiabank Dance Centre, Vancouver

Duration: 35 min

Produced and performed by Filipino opera artist and theatre-maker Renee Fajardo, Liham brings together a powerful team of collaborators to craft a deeply personal and culturally resonant work. Features music by Juro Kim Feliz, poetry by Revan Badingham III, and piano accompaniment by Vivian Kwok, this intimate concert bridges classical music and storytelling with a rich emotional depth.

This performance follows the Ruan Concert after a 15-minute transition. No separate ticket is required.

Description

Liham (translation: Letter) is a song cycle concert and personal memoir—a love letter to the Filipino spirit. Through music and spoken word, Fajardo explores migration, memory, and community, unfolding Filipino Canadian identity with grace. Performed in Tagalog and English with projected translations, Liham invites audiences into a tender, defiant reflection on strength and resilience across generations and oceans.

Please note:

This performance includes stories of racism and oppression.

In the spirit of storytelling, we pause to honour this land's ancient and contemporary narratives. We stand upon the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Just as we celebrate the diverse voices of immigrant and refugee artists, we recognize the First Peoples who have woven this place's first and enduring tales. Their stories are a testament to resilience, creativity, and the power of community. As we come together from many corners of the world, may we always remember, respect, and learn from this land's stories.
