Amir Naeim Hosseini
Amir is a distinguished figure in Vancouver's theatre scene, having dedicated the past decade to writing, directing, and producing works that address pressing social issues. As the Artistic Director of Blackout Art Society, Amir's visionary leadership has brought to life numerous projects that resonate deeply with audiences. His directorial prowess is evident in acclaimed productions such as "Grafting" (2023), "Echoes from Far Away Cities" (2022), "Zoning Out" (2021), and "Auto-Biography" (2019).
Before his illustrious career in Canada, Amir directed several short films and documentaries. His work "Blank" has garnered attention and was awarded for the best documentary at the 3rd Urban Film Festival in 2009 and the 6th International Student Film Festival in 2010.
Beyond his artistic endeavours, Amir has showcased an exceptional ability in grant writing, securing funding for various projects from esteemed institutions such as the Canada Council for the Arts, BC Arts Council, Canadian Heritage, Gaming Grant, and local city councils.
Amir's academic background is as diverse as his artistic portfolio. He holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering and a B.A. in Directing from IRIB University, Iran. Further honing his craft, he pursued an M.A. in Directing Theatre from TMU, Iran.
Since 2018, Amir has been enriching the Presentation House Theatre community as their artist-in-residence.
From 2021 until now, he has tried to echo the voices of immigrant and refugee artists as the artistic director of the STAND Festival.
